Takakkow Falls, the marvel of Yoho National Park

Takakkaw Falls

The word Yoho is a Cree expression of awe and wonder. Nested on the Western slopes of the Rockies, Yoho National Park boasts towering rock walls, spectacular waterfalls and 28 peaks over 3,000 meters in height. The Park was established in 1886 and has a size of 1,310 km2 (507 mi2). Takakkaw Falls are 17 km away from Field via Hwy 1 (East) and Yoho Valley Road (North). It's one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. Takakkaw means "magnificent" in Cree. Another beauty is the Emerald Lake, which is about 11 km (15 mins) from Field.

Emerald Lake lives up to its name in that it is a jewel amongst the attractions of the B.C. Rockies. It wasn't named Emerald Lake because of this though; it is a lake that really is the colour of an emerald. The lake - framed by stunning mountains - has a picture perfect beauty which almost appears too perfect to be real. When there, the lake seems to be the epitome of peaceful isolation, and yet it is easy to reach, as it is located just off the Trans Canada Highway between Lake Louise and Golden.
